Forced to strip search: schoolgirl sued London police

For the search, they took the girl out of an exam at school. They didn’t find any drugs.

Now the girl has sued the police and school over the 2020 incident, law firm Bhatt Murphy said on Friday. “She wants to hold both institutions accountable, including through strong commitments to ensure this never happens to another child,” said attorney Chanel Dolcy.

The incident only recently became public and sparked outrage across the country. The girl, who is only called “Child Q” for her own protection, thanked her for her support. “I know I’m not alone,” said the student accordingly. Experts and politicians accused the Met of racism.

The police had apologized to the girl and admitted that the strip search should never have taken place. “The Metropolitan Police has seemed incapable of reform for generations and it’s hard to say if that will ever change,” said attorney Dolcy. “Kid Q’s” family expects the new leadership to end institutional sexism and racism, Dolcy said. A new chief is currently being sought for the country’s main police agency after Mayor Sadiq Khan revoked police chief Cressida Dick’s confidence.

The Met has recently been criticized again and again – among other things due to discriminatory or misogynist behavior by some police officers. The murder of a young woman by a police officer last year caused horror.
