Almost 42,000 new infections and 43 deaths

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health and the Interior reported 41,999 newly infected people who were registered in the past 24 hours. 43 patients died from or with a Covid-19 disease. The seven-day incidence was 3,487.2 per 100,000 population. More than 3,000 people with Covid-19 were still in the hospital. Second highest Saturday value

After the record value last Saturday, 41,999 new infections meant the second highest value registered on this weekday since the beginning of the pandemic. The average for the past seven days was 44,735 cases per day.

The number of active cases rose by 4,549 from Friday to Saturday and stood at 449,799 people infected. In the past 24 hours, 37,407 patients have been reported as recovered. Since the start of the pandemic, 3,429,011 cases have been confirmed, of which 2,963,825 infected have been reported as recovered.

The number of deaths related to Covid disease in the past 24 hours was 43, well above the average of 29.6 deaths per day over the past seven days. In the past week, 207 people died of or with Covid-19, since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 15,387 deaths.

Upper Austria in second place

The number of hospital patients with Covid disease has fallen by 17 since Friday, but was still over 3,000 at 3,031. Of those patients, 203 were treated in an intensive care unit, four fewer than yesterday but 22 more than a week ago.

Video: In the Upper Austrian hospitals, 9.3 percent of the staff are currently absent due to illness. According to Dr. Bernd Lamprecht, head of the clinic for pulmonary medicine at the Kepler University Hospital, therefore not possible. The lung specialist welcomes the forthcoming tightening of the corona measures with the return to the FFP2 mask requirement:

Most new infections were in Lower Austria with 8,838, followed by Upper Austria with 7,485 and Vienna with 7,433. With 7,281 new infections, Styria was also over 7,000, followed by Tyrol with 2,693, Carinthia with 2,372, Salzburg with 2,218 and Vorarlberg with 2,012. Burgenland registered 1,667 new infections.

Hardly any vaccinations

There is still hardly any vaccination: On Friday only 4,503 stitches were administered, 359 of which were first vaccinations. 805 were second vaccinations, 3,339 third bites. According to the data from the e-vaccination pass, 6,811,014 people in Austria have received at least one vaccination. 6,227,494 people and thus 69.3 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination.
