Shortly before 2 p.m., a neighbor in the Urfahr-Umwelt district noticed heavy smoke coming from an apartment building and alerted the emergency services. The Luftenberg and Pürach fire brigades responded. When they arrived, the ground floor apartment of a 29-year-old was already on fire. The residents of the apartment building had already left their apartments.
A respiratory protection team was immediately sent into the building to fight the fire. At the same time, “Alert level 2” was triggered for further support. The fire was quickly brought under control. The subsequent extinguishing work turned out to be somewhat more difficult because the fire also spread to a wooden tram cover. During the course of the operation, several respiratory protection teams were deployed in order to be able to extinguish the last embers.
However, the fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent apartments and surrounding buildings. The 29-year-old and his mother, who lives above him, were taken to the hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, but were able to leave on the same day.
The fire site, which has already been examined by the district fire investigator, has not yet been clarified. A fire expert will also assess the fire.
