In Vienna, a total of 14 factions stood for election. 90 general assembly mandates were awarded, for which, according to the chamber, 447 doctors applied. 13,728 people were entitled to vote.
According to the broadcast, turnout at 50.31 percent was slightly below the figure for the 2017 election (51.13 percent). The number of votes cast, on the other hand, reached a new high of 6,907 votes, it said.
According to the preliminary final result published by the Chamber on Saturday, the “Association of Austrian Doctors – List Steinhart” received 1,759 votes or 26 mandates. Second was again the “Team Thomas Szekeres” of the incumbent President of the Chamber, which was able to win 1,370 votes or 20 mandates.
Third place went to the parliamentary group “Wahlgemeinschaft – Physicians for Physicians – Wiener Mittelbau”, which was able to win 17 mandates. The results of other campaigning groups are to be announced in the course of the evening.
The bosses of the two strongest factions entered the race with their own lists. Chamber President Szekeres was a member of the SPÖ, but has now suspended his party membership. Steinhart’s list is considered to be close to VP. He also had 26 mandates in 2017.
Szekeres also ended up in second place with 17 mandates, but he was able to agree on a majority with other parliamentary groups, as in 2012. He is a human geneticist and has headed the Viennese professional representation since 2012. In 2017, Szekeres succeeded Artur Wechselberger as President of the Austrian Medical Association.
MFG is expected to move in with six mandates
Right away, the MFG (probably 6 mandates) will move into three curiae of the Vienna Medical Association, the vaccination-critical party announced on Saturday evening. The MFG results in the individual sections: Employed doctors: seven percent (3 mandates); Resident general practitioners: second largest group with 13 percent, ahead of “Team Szekeres”; Specialists: six percent (1 mandate).
