The couple came off the road between the Untertauern junction and Fleisskehre with their car for an unknown reason and fell 100 meters into a steeply sloping forest. The two had to be cut out of the wreck by the fire brigade with a rescue shears.
The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m., but the two seriously injured people were only discovered by another driver two hours later. The driver of the car involved in the accident was flown to the Klagenfurt clinic in a rescue helicopter after first aid. The passenger was brought to the BKH Lienz by the rescue.
The car was totaled. The volunteer fire brigades in Heiligenblut, Apriach and Winkler with a total of 56 men, the Winklern and Lienz rescue teams as well as a doctor and an emergency doctor were on duty.
