Wang’s comments came after the US president, Joe Bidenwarned his Chinese counterpart on Friday, Xi Jinpingof the “consequences” that would have the fact that Beijing gave material permission to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
During the video call, Xi told Biden that the war in Ukraine must end as soon as possible and asked the countries of the NATO dialogue with Moscow. However, he did not blame Russia, according to Beijing’s comments on the meeting.
Wang said the most important message Xi sent was that China has always been a force in maintaining world peace.
“We have always been in favor of opposing war,” Wang said. “China’s position is objective and fair, and it is in line with the wishes of most countries. Time will show that China’s demands are on the right side of the history”.
Although Beijing claims to recognize Ukraine’s sovereignty, it has repeatedly said that Russia has legitimate security concerns that must be addressed and has called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
