“Listen to what is being said in Moscow now: ‘Final solution’, but already in relation to the Ukrainian question,” said the 44-year-old in a video appearance in front of members of the Knesset on Sunday.
The head of state with Jewish roots recalled the so-called “Final Solution to the Jewish Question”, as the murder of millions of Jews in Europe by Nazi Germany was called.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began a little over three weeks ago, is not just a “special military operation” – as the war is called in Russia. “This is a large-scale and insidious war aimed at the destruction of our people, our children, our families, our state,” said Zelenskyy. Ukraine is thus in a precarious situation similar to that of the Jewish state in the Middle East.
Referring to the constant Russian missile attacks, Zelenskyy said: “Everyone in Israel knows that your missile defenses are the best. Everyone knows that your weapons are powerful.” For him, the question arises as to why Israel’s government has so far neither delivered arms to Kyiv nor joined the western sanctions against Moscow. Israel must make the choice whether it also wants to save the lives of Ukrainian Jews.
