A six-year-old boy from Germany died in a tragic tobogganing accident at the weekend in the Berwang ski area (Reutte district). He and his father crashed into the pillar of an underpass with a toboggan on Saturday and were seriously injured. The boy succumbed to his injuries a day later.
On Saturday afternoon, the 37-year-old German and his son drove down the “Bärenritt” toboggan run towards the valley station. According to the police, the boy sat in front, behind him the father steered the toboggan. Immediately before an underpass, the father must have lost control of the sled, which then hit a padded post in the underpass.
The boy and his father were seriously injured by the massive impact and flown by helicopter to the Innsbruck hospital. There, the medical team lost the fight for the boy’s life on Sunday.
Collision ended fatally
A collision between two skiers ended fatally on Saturday in the Radstadt-Altenmarkt ski area. A 65-year-old from Salzburg and a skier (63) from Germany collided after the 65-year-old jumped over an edge of the terrain. Both slid around 50 meters down the slope.
Subsequent skiers immediately provided first aid and notified the piste rescue service and the police. The two men were taken to the hospital in Schwarzach by helicopter. The skier from Salzburg died there a short time later. The 63-year-old German was injured. The Salzburg public prosecutor ordered an autopsy of the deceased.
A fall while skiing also ended fatally in Sölden. A 62-year-old from Germany died in the hospital in Innsbruck, three days after she had an accident in the Gaislachkogel ski area.
According to the police, the woman suddenly fell at low speed on a blue runway. Despite wearing a helmet, she suffered severe head injuries. The woman’s son, who was driving behind her, immediately notified the emergency services. She was taken to the hospital by helicopter, where she succumbed to her injuries.
