In order to shorten the waiting times for registration, a ticket system with times was introduced in Upper Austria. In addition, according to police spokesman David Furtner, there is now the possibility of pre-registration by telephone by the helpers.
The police in Upper Austria currently have four recording devices. One is in Wels in the exhibition hall, two in the former mail distribution center near the main train station. The fourth is in the police station at the train station, which can only be contacted by people who have made an appointment in advance (tel: 059 133 40 40 40).
In the other places, they work with the ticket system in order to achieve the fastest possible processing when making an appointment. In Linz, these tickets are already available upon arrival at the main train station. In Wels at the exhibition hall. There, in particular, there were isolated complaints from volunteer companions last week that they had to wait hours with the refugees. “We are constantly working on optimization”, assured Furtner. Basically, the cooperation with the helpers and refugees is “extremely good and disciplined”.
Depending on how old the passports of the Ukrainians – mainly women and children – are, the registration takes between ten (with a biometric document) and 20 minutes. The daily capacity is currently 400. The Ministry of the Interior had assured that the Upper Austrian Police get more recording devices. Then another location is to be opened where the refugees can be registered.
