Biden consults with European allies for almost an hour

France’s President Emmanuel Macron, Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also attended the switching conference. The conversation lasted almost an hour, according to the White House.

The heads of state and government discussed their “serious concern about Russia’s brutal actions in Ukraine”. This included attacks on the civilian population.

According to the White House, the allies agreed that they would continue to provide military aid to “the brave Ukrainians who are defending their country against Russian aggression”. More humanitarian aid is to be provided for the more than three million people who have fled the violence. Another topic was the “recent diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine’s efforts to reach a ceasefire”.

Biden travels to Brussels on Wednesday. There he will take part in top meetings of NATO, the EU and the group of leading democratic economic powers (G7) on Thursday. On Friday, the US President flies to Poland. A meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda is planned for Saturday in Warsaw.
