Data from Great Britain show: Multiple infections are increasing

An evaluation in England shows that hundreds of thousands of people have already been infected several times with the corona virus. Around 7,640 triple infections have been officially recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UK HSA). It was registered for 62 people that they were infected four times – always with an interval of at least 90 days. In total, the authority recorded 715,154 reinfections in England as of March 6.

Since many reinfections are not noticed and recorded at all because of mild symptoms, experts assume a significantly higher number of such cases. Those affected were probably often infected with different virus variants, as medical professor Paul Hunter from the University of East Anglia told Sky News. “This virus will be part of our lives,” Hunter said. “Many of us will get infected again every few years. Even the grandchildren of our grandchildren will still get Corona.” Although immunity to the virus dwindles after an infection, it usually prevents severe disease progression in the event of reinfection. This should also be the case if other variants of this virus emerge – as we have reported here.

In Great Britain, the number of new infections recorded has recently increased again somewhat. According to the UK HSA, all age groups are affected, but especially people between 30 and 49 years of age. The reasons are significantly more social contact and the lifting of the obligation to isolate in the case of positive corona tests. In addition, the more contagious omicron subtype BA.2 is spreading rapidly.
