“Our city has passed its final cap,” said the mayor of Miami Beach, Dan Gelberwho lamented the number of police resources that the authorities had to deploy to the crowds that came to the city for the spring break.

“We don’t want Spring Break here, but people keep coming”, lamented Gelber, who confessed that he does not have the authority to close the highways that connect it with the neighboring city of Miami, as a preventive measure, the media added.

In the last weekend, the local police seized 75 firearms. On Monday, two women were shot in a shooting that occurred in the popular street of ocean drivenext to the beach.

The two wounded joined three other people who were admitted to Miami Beach hospitals for gunshot wounds early Sunday.

Last year, the authorities also decreed a curfew in the face of the chaos caused by the “Spring Break” after one person died, more than a thousand were arrested and drugs and a hundred firearms were seized.

Preventively this year, the mayor of the city had already prohibited from March 7 to 21 the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in Miami Beach after 2 in the morning.

The residents of Miami say they are fed up with the arrival of thousands of uncontrolled young people.

“I was also young, I understand, but they don’t take into account the people who live here,” Anita Cheek, 52, lamented in dialogue with AFP. “They get drunk, they throw up on the floor, they leave bottles everywhere, they do all these crazy dances,” she added. “I have a lot of neighbors who say they’re willing to move because of this,” she said.
