Barn caught in a forest fire

Barn caught in a forest fire

Around 2 p.m., a 58-year-old farmer and his wife noticed smoke and a small fire in a wooded area about 200 meters away in Bad Zell. The man immediately rushed there to put out the fire. The fire spread quickly and was driven by the wind towards a barn there, police reported on Tuesday evening. When the fire brigade arrived, the fire had already spread to 250 to 300 square meters and finally the fire also caught the barn. The fire brigades in Bad Zell, Erdleiten and Hinterberg as well as numerous helping farmers were able to bring the fire under control and finally extinguish it. However, 30 to 40 trees and a large part of the barn were destroyed, according to the police.

The cause of the fire is still unclear. However, it can be assumed that someone had thrown away a cigarette on the trail. Due to the ongoing drought, the risk of forest fires is currently high.
