An OÖN reader who was at a dentist in Marienstraße and drew attention to a dangerous incident in the center of Linz spoke of a deafening bang. “Your sign just fell down,” said a caller to Passage City Center information. The fact that the shopping center in the city center was contacted shortly after noon yesterday was because the sign that fell from the facade of the city car park from a height of around eight meters onto the pavement below bore the lettering of the Passage City Center.
“The most important thing is that nothing happened to anyone,” said center manager Julia Kretz when asked by OÖN. She and her staff sounded the alarm immediately after receiving the information and took the emergency services to the scene of the incident. “But the sign has nothing to do with us, it doesn’t belong to us,” Kretz continued, which is also why she didn’t want to say more about it. The sign is owned by Real-Treuhand Immobilien.
It will now also have to be clarified with the company why the construction came loose from the facade of the car park and fell onto the sidewalk below, which fortunately no one was walking on at the time. However, there were some indications that the brackets had rusted through.
