The Miami Beach City Council unanimously approved the measure. The curfew for areas such as the famous party mile Ocean Drive in South Beach will apply from Thursday between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. local time, according to local media. It therefore ends on Sunday morning for the time being.
However, at its meeting on Tuesday (local time), the city council made it clear that the measure could be reinstated for the following weekend if the situation got out of control again. At least five people were injured in two incidents in Miami Beach over the weekend. Crowds of revelers travel to Miami Beach every year for Spring Break. Last year, rampant street parties, vandalism and brawls led to the city declaring a state of emergency and imposing a night curfew. According to a report by US broadcaster CNN, at least nine police officers have been injured this year since the spring break began in February.
