Joe Biden asks to expel Russia from the G20 and promises an answer if it uses chemical weapons in Ukraine

Biden also claimed that Russia failed in its attempt to divide Western countries and that, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the military alliance is “closer than ever”.

Putin ‘didn’t think we could maintain this cohesion’ and obtained “exactly the opposite of what he wanted by invading Ukraine”he declared, quoted by the AFP news agency.

The US president also spoke in favor of Russia’s exclusion from the G20although he noted that this decision would depend on the group of members of that coordination body between industrialized and emerging powers.

“Today we talked about that. And I raised the possibility that if it can’t be done (expel Russia from the G20), if Indonesia (host country of the next summit) and others don’t agree, (…) we should allow Ukraine to attend the meetings as well“, he added.

The Kremlin confirmed the Putin’s intention to attend the G20 summit in Indonesia at the end of the year and, for now, the host country maintains its invitation to the leader, despite the war in Ukraine.

Regarding China, Moscow’s traditional ally, Biden expressed his “hope” that the Asian giant refrain from helping him in the war in Ukraine. “I think China understands that its economic future will depend more on its relations with the West than with Russia.”he insisted.
