Almost three years after going bankrupt and being rescued by a group of investors from Upper Austria, the film manufacturer Alufix is going out of business. The company announced yesterday that 112 employees will lose their jobs at the plant in Wiener Neudorf as a result of the solvent closure.
In addition, the consortium has terminated the cooperation in its original form. The former co-owner Florian Huemer confirmed this to the OÖN. “In 2019 there was still great optimism, but not much of it is left.”
As reported, in June 2019 an Upper Austrian group of investors was awarded the contract for the manufacturer of aluminum and cling film as well as garbage bags, catering and disposable tableware. The consortium consisted of the Linz management and investment company Simentum with the bosses Florian Huemer and Hermann Schübl, the Drott Holding of the Upper Austrian restructuring specialist Martin Mayrhofer and Double X Corporate Finance GmbH, which was backed by the Linz lawyer Alexander Hasch. Johannes Mahringer acted as Alufix’s managing director.
He himself, Schübl and Mahringer have not been on board with Alufix since last year, says Huemer. There were “differences of opinion and differences of opinion” with the co-owners.
Alufix justified the end yesterday with the pandemic, an unfavorable market development, increased raw material prices and a shortage of raw materials. Customer orders that have already been placed are still being processed and all open liabilities are being serviced. The Pro-Ge union called for a search for investors to enable continued operation.
