Free PCR tests: What is changing in Upper Austria

In Upper Austria there will be two ways in which you can take your five free PCR tests: either via the ooe-gurgelt campaign in cooperation with Spar or in the pharmacies. What is new is that you have to choose one of the two variants at the beginning of the month, Deputy Governor Christine Haberlander (ÖVP) informed on Friday after a video conference between the Ministry of Health and the federal states.

Every citizen is entitled to five free PCR and five antigen tests per month. The PCR tests can either be picked up and handed in via ooe-gurgelt in Spar branches or done in pharmacies. In the savings markets, the test kits are still available in packs of ten. This amount must now be enough for two months.

“Old” tests can still be used

Anyone who still has test tubes from previous months at home can continue to use them, but the system only analyzes five per month, according to the crisis team. The Sunday pickup via SparExpress and McDonalds remains in place. Alternatively, you can also have the free PCR tests carried out in pharmacies, but you have to decide on one of the two variants at the beginning of the month. You can do this online at www.ooe-gurgelt.at or in the pharmacy.

The five antigen tests, which everyone is entitled to free of charge, are made available in pharmacies in Upper Austria. The issue is coordinated by the federal government in cooperation with the pharmacies.

Anything beyond these ten tests per month will have to be paid for in future. For official tests and free test options, the official test routes via the Red Cross remain in place, and there is still the option of taking a throat set home for the free test.
