In the “Standard” interview, he says, even until recently a state councilor in Vorarlberg: “We are currently living in fair-weather federalism. When the sun shines, it was the states; when it rains, the health minister is to blame.”
Rauch denies that the government is deliberately letting the omicron wave rage across the country: “I categorically reject the fact that the Austrian government has chosen an infection strategy.” The virus has changed faster and more dramatically than the measures could have been adjusted.
The Minister of Health is not surprised at the successes of the vaccine-skeptical MFG list in the Medical Association elections: “The pandemic is bringing things to light that have a long history in this country. Hostility to science is socially acceptable in Austria – not least fueled by governments that ridicule science have made.”
