Ex-team striker Janko criticized ÖFB leadership and sports director Schöttel

The commitment of the representatives in amateur football is “good and important for the general public, but for the professional area you need expertise that is also familiar with this area,” said Janko on Saturday in “Sport Aktuell” on ORF television. “For the sake of Austrian football, the question may be asked whether it is not the right time for a reform.”

Janko also criticizes the role of sports director Peter Schöttel, like Janko a former ÖFB team player. So he questioned the selection process before the appointment of still team boss Franco Foda: “With all due respect to Peter Schöttel, he found all three final candidates – that was (Andreas) Herzog, Thorsten Fink and Franco Foda – to be of equal value. I imagine that already the question: What was his idea behind it? Was there even a concept of how you would like to play football?”

A reform should answer the questions “Where do we want to go? How do we want to be? And how do we want to get there?” Janko said. After the end of his active career, the 39-year-old is currently working, among other things, as a TV expert.
