“We regret the death of a 12-year-old boy. This fact leaves a partial balance of 7 adults and 5 minors injured,” said the state Personería de Bogotá in a Twitter message published early Sunday morning.
According to the Mayor’s Office of the Colombian capital, among the injured is a policeman who is “out of danger.”
The minor died while being treated at a hospital in Ciudad Bolívar, a popular neighborhood that, with this, has been the target of two similar attacks in the last month.
At the most recent detonation, the explosive was “placed at the back” of the police station, camouflaged “in a suitcase that is activated when a call is madeDefense Minister Diego Molano explained to the media.
It is the “same mechanism” used in the attack against another police station in the area on March 5, Molano denounced.
The authorities did not give indications about the authors of the attack, but offered a reward equivalent to 80,000 dollars for information that leads to their capture.
Colombia is going through the worst outbreak of violence after signing peace with the FARC guerrillas in 2016.
In several places, security has deteriorated even further ahead of the presidential elections at the end of May.
