Escape, natural disasters or false political or religious beliefs – reasons why people suddenly “disappear”. The Red Cross aims to help people reconnect with their family members. Last year, the Red Cross in Austria was able to successfully unite 2,548 families, and there were 854 cases when people were searched for.
In Lower Austria, the third Restoring Family Links Center is now being opened in the Bleib-Aktiv-Zentrum in Amstetten. “Knowing where my relatives are is a human right. That’s why the Red Cross and Red Crescent movements are networking all over the world and offering the tracing service,” says Josef Schmoll, President of the Red Cross in Lower Austria.
The centers are intended to serve as the first point of contact for advice and processing of applications. The Red Cross also supports the further integration of the reunited families.
