The date was unsuccessful: the blackmailer suddenly demanded 20,000 euros

A 24-year-old had to answer to the Graz Criminal Court yesterday, who is said to have threatened the publication of intimate chats.

As the “Kleine Zeitung” reports in its current issue, according to the indictment, the man tried to blackmail his victim – only if he paid 20,000 euros would he remain silent about delicate chat content, show it to anyone in the company and not report sexual harassment report to the police.

The accused denied the allegations. He never blackmailed the other man. “There was never a demand for money,” he asserted. He didn’t start the chats, explains the 24-year-old. Rather, his counterpart had leaked intimate pictures to him. “But you never wrote in no uncertain terms that he should stop doing it,” said prosecutor Ines Eichwalder. Reading the chats, “it already sounds like you want to keep him in line”.

Because the chats just didn’t end, it came to a date. Love didn’t stand a chance. “I went home without having achieved anything,” says the victim. “Then he told me that I had to pay 20,000 euros within 24 hours. Otherwise he would go public with the chat history.”

For the prosecutor, “the guilt of the accused has clearly been shown. You wanted the money, otherwise you would defame the victim.” Judge Wlasak pronounced a guilty verdict for attempted extortion: a fine of 4,500 euros plus seven months’ imprisonment. The judgment is not final
