The new VP Deputy Mayor and Traffic Officer Martin Hajart has been in office for almost two weeks. He has now presented his first major projects and priorities, such as improving the situation for cyclists in the city.
Its first major point is the main square, which is to become car-free when the Westring Bridge is opened to traffic – this is planned for 2024. “The main square should become a place where people feel comfortable! This holds new opportunities for tourism and business. From my point of view, the time should now be used to deal with the further development in a well-founded manner. On the basis of the necessary uses of the main square such as gastronomy and trade, tourist groups, events, location for taxis, etc., with regard to the new objective, it is a matter of talking about the future design cyclists are created. “In this case, we have to coordinate closely with the state of Upper Austria,” says Hajart.
More bikes to borrow
Speaking of cyclists: these are particularly important to Hajart. Therefore, the bicycle rental system should also be expanded. “We are working with the provider, City Bike Linz GmbH, on further development,” says the Vice President of the City. Additional locations are to be set up. There are currently 42 rental stations with a total of 420 bicycles.
In addition, the traffic lights should also become “more intelligent”. Two million euros are planned in the current double budget of the city for the modernization and digitization of the traffic lights and traffic technology.
