This is the lowest Tuesday reading in five weeks. However, 58 fatalities have been registered in the past 24 hours – so many in one day were last seen in mid-December. The number of Covid 19 patients in the hospitals continues to rise, exactly 3,333 were hospitalized on Tuesday.
On average, 34,000 people were infected with SARS-CoV-2 every day in the past week. In total, there were 2,37,997 new infections. The seven-day incidence fell to 2,650.2 cases per 100,000 people on Tuesday. On Tuesday there were 382,899 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, down 17,286 from the day before.
The 58 deaths since Monday are the highest 24-hour figure in more than three months. On December 14, the authorities had reported 64 fatalities within one day. In the past week alone, 277 infected people have died in Austria. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 15,764 lives in Austria since it broke out. 175.5 people per 100,000 inhabitants have already died from or with Covid-19.
While the number of new infections is declining at a high level, the number of patients continues to rise. Exactly 3,333 infected people had to be treated in hospital on Tuesday, 74 more than on Monday. 238 seriously ill people are in intensive care units, three fewer than the day before. Within the past week, however, 13 patients had been added.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 3,770,412 confirmed cases in Austria. 3,371,749 people have recovered since the outbreak of the epidemic. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Lower Austria with 3,024.9, followed by Vorarlberg (2,881.9), Upper Austria (2,824.5) and Vienna (2,703.5). It is followed by Styria (2,685.4), Burgenland (2,669.5), Salzburg (2,450.3), Carinthia (2,224.2) and Tyrol (1,615.6).
69.1 percent with valid vaccination protection
Although the number of tests per person is still unlimited, the numbers are already declining significantly. A total of 530,126 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 362,284 were meaningful PCR tests, 6.3 percent delivered positive results. In the past week, an average of more than 404,500 PCR analyzes were examined every day, the positive rate was 8.8 percent.
On Monday, 2,819 corona vaccinations were administered across Austria, compared to only 23,185 in the past week. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,814,128 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 6,208,775 people and thus 69.1 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination.
The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 75.3 percent. In Lower Austria, 71.3 percent of the population has a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 69.9 percent. After Vienna (68.3), Tyrol (67.1), Carinthia (66.1), Salzburg (65.3) and Vorarlberg (65.1), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 64.7 percent.
