The conspicuous driving style and the loud exhaust noise drew the attention of a police patrol on Tuesday morning to the boy, who was traveling with his 15-year-old girlfriend on Haidfeldstrasse in the direction of the Harterplateau.
The officers followed and caught up with the couple at the intersection of Ehrenfellnerstrasse and Limesstrasse. The 16-year-old ignored the request to stop. Instead, he accelerated and overtook a column of vehicles that had stopped to let students cross the road.
Fall stopped chase
Despite the precarious situation, the boy continued on an unpaved road in the direction of an allotment garden, ignored several attempts to stop and did not stop when a patrol car overtook him. The moped driver overtook the police car again and fled onto a sidewalk in the direction of Poststraße, across country through the park, where a fall slowed down the wild chase.
Without taking care of his girlfriend, who was injured in the fall, the 16-year-old drove a little further and hid the moped and helmet in a bush. He fled on foot to an allotment garden and hid there.
No registration, fake number plate
The injured 15-year-old was found by officers sitting on the side of the road. The police called the rescue and provided first aid. A short time later, other officials succeeded in finding the moped driver in the allotment garden settlement.
As it turned out, his vehicle was not registered for traffic, was not in a roadworthy and operationally safe condition and had a fake number plate installed. The latter was secured. The youth is reported several times, the police said on Tuesday afternoon.
