Transit quarters in St. Martin become a permanent solution

Two weeks after the start, the St. Martin transit quarter is on hold for the time being – but a permanent solution is being considered. More than 250 people fleeing the war in Ukraine were taken in in the quarters in Haslach and St. Martin, given medical care and provided with the essentials. After Haslach, the house in St. Martin is currently closed and is being prepared for basic care. “It was again a feat of strength that we could only achieve together,” district rescue commander Raab draws an interim balance. The allocation of private quarters was implemented so well through the commitment of numerous mayors and civilians that more than 150 people, mostly women and children, were able to find a new home in private quarters in the district of Rohrbach.

The house in St. Martin will be used in the future as permanent basic accommodation for people who have fled from the Ukraine. “48 places will probably be available before Easter, the infrastructure will be improved compared to the temporary quarters,” says Klaus Gattringer, the site operations manager from the Red Cross St. Martin. The quarter will then be looked after by social workers from the Red Cross, who are still looking for reinforcements for their team here. “We were only able to react optimally to the rapidly changing situation with the help of our employees and the cooperation with the BH, the municipalities, the Team Austria and the SHV with senior home chef Florian Stockinger and last but not least because of the numerous voluntary interpreters.” Raab.
