However, according to The Independent newspaper, Wallis decided to share his story after a meeting of Conservative MPs held the day before, in which he allegedly Johnson welcomed by mocking the debate that has arisen in the opposition Labor Party around gender identity.
According to said newspaper, the premier would have said: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, or as (Labour leader) Keir Starmer would say, people who are assigned male or female gender at birth”. Starmer has supported calls for trans people to get a legal gender recognition based on self-declaration and not in a medical diagnosis.
However, last week, Johnson insisted during a parliamentary debate that biology should be a key factor in identityas reported by the AFP news agency.
