The Welser Volksfest heralds the celebrations for the anniversary year

The city of Wels is celebrating its 800th birthday and there could be no better start for this anniversary than the Welser Volksfest. The traditional festival begins today, March 31st, and ends on Sunday, April 3rd. The folk festival is not yet 800 years old, but it can also look back on a long tradition.

It took place for the first time in 1878. The rides have since become more modern, but the motto has been the same for almost 150 years: a festival where young and old alike get their money’s worth.

At 6 p.m. the lights on the festival grounds go on. At 7 p.m. the tapping of the beer will follow in the Wels marquee – a beer costs 11.10 euros, half a beer 5.60 euros.

The entire outdoor area and the amusement park are accessible without corona controls. The 3G rule applies indoors.

In a dirndl and lederhosen

The folk festival does not have an official dress code, but the vast majority of women appear in dirndls and the men come in lederhosen and traditional jackets.

“The Daredevils” will be on duty on Thursday to set the mood musically. On Friday, the Wels Austropop formation “Hoamspü” (from 4.30 p.m.) will be in the sixty meter long marquee. At 8 p.m., “Die Lauser” will heat up the audience. On Saturday, “Die Granaten” will be on stage from 8 p.m. At the morning pint on Sunday, “The Mugls” are in action with Alexandra Lexer.

The holiday fair “Urlaub & Camping” (Halls 6 and 8) takes place on the Wels exhibition center from Friday to Sunday parallel to the folk festival. The right bike and ideal accessories can be found in Hall 8.
