Any help came too late for a 30-year-old woman in Vienna’s Prater on Tuesday evening. The woman was working at one of the rides and was crossing the facility when she was hit by a roller coaster car. She died from her injuries despite first aid at the scene of the accident.
A press conference was called yesterday, the day after the accident. Otto Barth, owner of the roller coaster, was deeply affected. He was informed by the operations manager around 8:30 p.m. that the woman “went into the system in a dangerous area where she was not allowed to go where it was blocked off and was hit by the train,” said Barth. The labor inspectorate was informed and a judicial autopsy was suggested. “We are stunned. Our thoughts are with the bereaved,” said Barth, who was struggling to keep his composure.
event cancelled
A press conference on Prater novelties of the season taking place today has been cancelled. “We have put together a crisis team as a contact for the authorities,” said Silvia Lang, Vice President of the Vienna Prater Association. “We are considering an action to deal with the accident together.” Questions were not answered at the meeting “so as not to anticipate the authorities,” it said. The attraction with a length of 1250 meters is the largest transportable roller coaster in the world. The Barth family is one of the most successful showman businesses in Germany.
