Germany, for its part, claimed to be prepared for any decision Moscow makes.
Also, he confirmed that he will continue to respect the contracts on the supply of Russian gas and, therefore, the payment in euros.
About the Kremlin ultimatum, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, reacted clearly by stating that his country will comply with the contracts.
“We read the contracts, the gas is paid in euros. And I made it clear to Putin on the phone that it will continue like this,” he said.
“Payments will be made in euros to the Gazprom bank, and it will be the Russian institution that will later convert them into rubles,” he added.
German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, along with his French colleague Bruno La Maire, assured that precautionary measures had already been taken and that Berlin was prepared for any eventuality.
Gas monitoring has already started and it has been verified that “currently the supply is stable,” Habeck said.
“We will protect companies and private budgets,” he said.
