The red-white-red teams and many local cycling fans breathed a sigh of relief yesterday. The association announced that after a two-year break, a tour of Austria should take place again from July 2nd to 6th, 2022.
As already reported two weeks ago in the OÖN, the tour director is Werner Kuhn, who previously led the fortunes of the Rapid Wien football club for many years. He is supported by Christoph Ziermann, a former professional cyclist who once delivered a positive doping test in 1988 before the Olympic Games.
This year’s comeback tour has five stages, starting in Bad Tatzmannsdorf. The Großglockner is crossed on the second day, after which a section continues to Bad Ischl. It continues in Bad Schallerbach on July 5th, with the mountain finish on the Sunday mountain, the decision about the overall victory will then be made.
Stage plan of the Tour of Austria 2022 (July 2nd to 6th): Bad Tatzmannsdorf–Wolfsberg (168 km), Seeboden–Großglockner–St. Johann-Alpendorf (167), St. Johann-Bad Ischl (105), Bad Schallerbach-Sonntagberg (156), Marchegg-Vienna (110).
