The neo-Nazi rapper “Mr. Bond” was found guilty yesterday at the Vienna Regional Court and sentenced to ten years in prison for Nazi activities. The court assumed that the 37-year-old was “particularly dangerous”. His co-accused younger brother summed up four years unconditionally.
The judgments are not final. The brothers asked for time to think things over, the prosecutor gave no explanation. As the presiding judge explained in the verdict, the “particular danger” assumed by the public prosecutor’s office from “Mr. Bond”, who is popular in right-wing extremist circles, cannot be dismissed out of hand. His songs have been downloaded “a few hundred thousand times” on the Internet.
“All the allegations are correct,” said “Mr. Bond” last Tuesday at the start of the negotiations. He pleaded “guilty in full” and explained: “I realized that that was wrong. I was blinded and only now do I realize the scope of my actions.” The far-right rapper’s brother was partially confessed. The 34-year-old admitted to having been the administrator of a far-right, anti-Jewish website, but denied uploading his brother’s music to the Internet. The indictment accused “Mr. Bond” of glorifying Nazism, Adolf Hitler and the mass extermination of the Jews with his music and videos. He had gained notoriety in the relevant scene by rewriting popular hits and spreading the new versions via the Internet and publishing them on CDs.
Born in Lienz, he also distributed a video in which he paid tribute to the Christchurch attacker in New Zealand, who killed 51 people in two mosques in March 2019.
Before the trial, like-minded people had called for statements of solidarity for their accused idol on Telegram. For security reasons, the process was therefore monitored by state security and heavily armed Wega officials. During the two-day main hearing, however, there were no attempted disruptions.
