The city had previously announced on Facebook, among other things, that meat lovers would have to pay a surcharge at the Urfahraner fair in the future if they felt like eating something hearty. A little later, the clarification followed that it was an April Fool’s joke. We wanted to draw attention to the fact that Excessive meat consumption is not only bad for your health, but also for the climate and the environment.
The post quickly led to discussions and negative feedback, and Mayor Klaus Luger also spoke up. “I apologize to those citizens who were irritated by the joke. It’s also not funny in terms of language,” Luger announced in a broadcast. The city manager announced that he wanted to clarify the social media strategies within the city.
