18 sleuths in search of missing persons

With the emergency services of the 20-strong team, at least one of the 18 search dogs is always present, says Romana Rausch, who works in the association as deputy chairman, trainer and operations manager.

Because the search dog squadron has now advanced to alert the police, Rausch expects significantly more operations in the future. In this context, cooperation with the executive basically plays an important role, as she says: “If we are called to an emergency, we always consult the police first.”

The helpers are often also alerted by old people’s homes when a resident of the facility is missing. “But private individuals can also contact us around the clock,” says Rausch. “Our help is completely free of charge, regardless of whether we come with one or five dogs.” According to Rausch, the association is all the more dependent on financial support.

Volunteer Manifesto

The use of the search dog squadron is just one of many examples where volunteers are on the spot. There is nothing nicer than helping someone, said representatives of the voluntary rescue and security organizations at the OÖN volunteer summit. However, the framework conditions for their work were becoming increasingly difficult. That’s why the volunteers need your help: Support the manifesto at nachrichten.at/manifest or by signing coupons.
