Neumarkt in the marathon reading fever

“Ready, steady, read!” is the motto of the tenth reading marathon at the Neumarkt im Mühlkreis elementary school. Since the end of January, marathon participants big and small have been devouring one book after the other and writing down how many pages they have read. The ambitious goal: to crack the million mark together. All elementary school students take part, as well as many middle school students and adults from Neumarkt and other communities.

“No matter what the children read – the main thing is as much as possible. And they read like mad!” says teacher Waltraud Hiptmair. “That has a very significant effect on reading ability.” Great prizes await the “master readers” from each class. Thanks to an additional draw, children who are less enthusiastic about reading also have the chance to win a prize or to go to the reading festival on the Pöstlingberg with the class winners.

At the end of March, Leonora Leitl was a guest at the elementary school to really fuel the reading fever. The author and illustrator from Gramastetten presented her book “Willi Virus” to the young readers. With the help of a suitcase theatre, Leitl explained what kind of mischief the unsympathetic contemporary is up to in our body and with what impressive means it gets rid of it again. The author herself contributed a “half marathon” for Neumarkt with 21 books read and over 5,500 pages. If you want to get started spontaneously, you can complete the “Quarter Marathon” with 11 books by April 19 and enter the pages you have read in the list on ramlwirt.at.

With active support, the Neumarkt cultural association Ramlwirt does everything to ensure that the anniversary marathon becomes a special event. The club throws a big marathon family party after the finish line. Magic, music and a tombola await many visitors on April 29th in the Stockschützenhalle in Neumarkt.
