The Florence Opera House, which is under the direction of Austrian artistic director Alexander Pereira, announced that Welser-Möst will not conduct two concerts scheduled for April 6 and 10. The Easter concert in the cathedral of the city of Orvieto on April 9th was also canceled.
Welser-Möst will be replaced at the two concerts in Florence next week by Theodor Guschlbauer, who is returning to Florence’s Teatro del Maggio after more than 20 years. Sir Mark Philip Elder will conduct at the Orvieto Cathedral on April 9th and then at 8pm at the Teatro del Maggio’s Sala Mehta on April 10th, the theater announced.
Daniele Gatti will be chief conductor of the opera house “Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino” in Florence for the next three years. On April 12, the 60-year-old maestro makes his debut as chief conductor with Gluck’s “Orphee et Euridice”, directed by Pierre Audi.
