This was announced by public prosecutor spokeswoman Ulrike Breiteneder on Sunday. The other three suspects – two 15-year-old Afghans and a 14-year-old Iranian – have been in custody since Friday evening. The fourth suspect turned himself in to the police in Vöcklabruck on Friday.
The young people are said to have attacked a 16-year-old German woman near Linz’s main train station on Wednesday evening. Officers from the Aliens’ Police took notice and intervened. The perpetrators fled. A little later, three of the boys were arrested. All three are innocent, but they are already known to the police because of “minor crimes,” they said. Two suspects said there had been sexual contact with the girl “on a consensual basis,” the third is silent, reported Breiteneder. The fourth suspect remained responsible for not doing anything himself. There had been sexual contacts between the others, but on a consensual basis, said the spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office about the fourth boy’s previous statements.
However, the victim had “clearly incriminated all four of those arrested in the sense of a rape allegation,” Breiteneder had already emphasized on Saturday. One is “far away from the attempt”, but it is about “repeated, completed acts by different perpetrators”. The 16-year-old had been hospitalized and gaps in her memory emerged when she was questioned. Traces are currently being examined, the evaluation will take some time. It is still uncertain how the crime happened and whether the perpetrators were acquainted with the victim.
Regarding speculation about possible false statements about the age of the alleged perpetrators, Breiteneder said: “As far as I know, there have been no indications of this from the file.” If there were doubts about the age, there would be investigations and appropriate reports. So far, the main issue has been the question of detention.
