2-1 against Rapid: Junuzovic shot Salzburg to victory in the 94th minute

Zlatko Junuzovic gave Salzburg a gift on his farewell tour: In the 94th minute, the 34-year-old scored the goal to win 2-1 against Rapid. The Viennese also lost the eighth game in a row in Salzburg.

Since his protracted heel injury, Junuzovic has only been a supporting actor with the champions, so it has been clear for weeks that his expiring contract will not be extended. Junuzovic left open whether and where he would continue his career. The ex-Austria playmaker ruled out only one option: “It won’t be rapid.”

The winning goal tasted all the sweeter for him. Luka Sucic put Salzburg ahead with a shot at 102 km/h from more than 30 meters. Rapid goalkeeper Niklas Hedl thwarted further chances. Ferdy Druijf scored the equalizer for the Viennese practically out of nowhere. An exchange of blows developed – in which Junuzovic was responsible for the knockout.

Sturm secure second place in the table

A few hours earlier, Sturm Graz had celebrated a 2-0 away win against WAC and Wiener Austria drew 1-1 against Austria Klagenfurt in front of their home crowd. In the table, Salzburg’s advantage over their closest rival, Sturm, is still twelve points.

Vienna. Three more points behind are the “Violets” in third place, Rapid is two points behind their archrival fourth. The qualifying group matches were played on Saturday – Ried won 2-0 at LASK, WSG Tirol won 1-0 in Hartberg and Altach ended 2-2 against Admira.
