Under the heading “Your safety is important to us”, previously unknown persons had posted a notice to women who were walking around the station premises. Their safety “can no longer be guaranteed”.
The women were advised not to dress revealingly and to wear a hat, and to keep a meter away from “suspects, especially groups of young men”.
ÖBB and the police distance themselves
An allusion to the rape of a 16-year-old in Linz, which happened near the station area. ÖBB distanced itself from the posters and had them removed immediately. Their security service “Mungos” and the police also emphasized that they did not put up the laminated posters.
There are videos from the surveillance cameras of the station area, which are now being evaluated. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism (LVT) is investigating on suspicion of hate speech.
