Mühlkreisbahn collided with a large boulder

During his training trip from Aigen-Schlägl to Urfahr, the engine driver was surprised by a massive boulder. There were four other people on the train besides him. At Hehenberg, between Haslach and Neufelden, the rock must have come loose from a slope and fallen onto the tracks. The 35-year-old immediately initiated emergency braking, but was no longer able to prevent a collision. The boulder was dismantled into many individual parts, and the railway clearer was badly damaged. This is actually used to push obstacles aside, according to the police.

Multi-day ban

The collision ripped the front left side of the train halfway off the tracks. Luckily, the rest stayed on the tracks so that the train did not crash into the Große Mühl. Both the engine driver and the four passengers escaped with a fright. The route between Haslach an der Mühl and Neufelden is expected to remain closed until Friday, ÖBB announced on its website. A rail replacement service was organized.
