For his part, Juan Carlos Alvarado, general secretary of the political party Committee for the Independent Electoral Political Organization (Copei), part of the Democratic Alliance, has reported that he has participated in the meeting, along with other members of the coalition.

In a message posted on his Twitter social network account, he detailed that they have expressed their “public intention to reconcile for the country”. “A clear example of focus and political maturity,” he added, before specifying that the coalition does not stay “in the way of gossip.”

Maduro announced in March the reactivation of the dialogue process with the opposition in Venezuela, which was put on hold due to the extradition to the United States of Álex Saab, alleged figurehead of the president.

At that time, he maintained that the dialogue, which was taking place in Mexico, received “a tremendous blow”, but defended that if Caracas “asks for dialogue with the world” it has to “set an example”.

The Venezuelan government announced in October the suspension of its participation in the dialogue with the opposition in Mexico, before a new round was held in the process that began last August, in response to the extradition of Saab, wanted by the United States for alleged money laundering in favor of Maduro.
