LKH Bad Aussee should only get a five-day clinic

Corresponding plans also emerge from a broadcast on Wednesday. The background to this is declining operating room utilization and low case numbers. Extensive operations, especially on weekends, should only be carried out in the Rottenmann surgical department.

Too few staff?

KAGes has backed up its plans with a report from the Court of Auditors from 2020: It shows that “the number of staff in the surgical area at the Bad Aussee site does not correspond to a permanent operating license”. According to KAGes, in 2021, out of a total of 503 surgeries, only 34 were performed outside of regular operations Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 29 surgeries were performed on Saturdays or Sundays.

“Quality Risks in Treatment”

“These low numbers inevitably result in quality risks in the treatment. To counteract this development, KAGes is implementing a central outpatient first aid unit (ZAE). This ensures acute care seven days a week,” the broadcast assured.

Demonstration in front of the hospital

According to an online report in the “Kleiner Zeitung”, around 300 people demonstrated against the plans in front of the hospital on Wednesday and they also got into conversation with KAGes board member Gerhard Stark. He was at the Bad Aussee site for a works meeting and faced the participants in the demonstration.
