Two years have passed from the idea to series production. But now Florian Holzmayer is ready to start with his “Balcosy”. The piece of furniture that serves as a table or shelf can easily be converted into a folding balcony (the OÖN reported). “Two years ago I had the idea, in January last year I founded my start-up ‘Flow Factory’, and now we are ready to go to the market,” says the 23-year-old in the OÖN interview.
With the balcony alternative, which is available in three variants (costs from 699 euros and up), all those who live without a balcony, garden or terrace have a touch of the flair of sitting outside. “This window seat offers an alternative solution for households that unfortunately have no open-air space,” Mayor Klaus Luger is also impressed by the product development from Linz.
Try sitting on the main square
Anyone who wants to see, experience and try out the invention will have the opportunity to do so from April 8th to 10th. In the Linz city oasis on the main square, Holzmayer and the makers of Vresh, the fair clothing brand from Linz, will invite you to the three-day summer opening. Assuming the weather cooperates. If this is not the case, the presentation will be made up for from April 22nd to 24th.
Throughout April, Vresh will be presenting its range and products from the new collection in the pop-up store on the Main Innovation Square. And thus not only allows insights into fair, because sustainable fashion, but also gives the “Balcosy” team a stage for three days. “We work together and try to use synergies,” says Holzmayer about the relationship with the Vresh makers.
The native of Salzburg, who lives in Linz, had his big TV appearance on Tuesday. Because he presented his idea on the Puls4 show “2 minutes 2 million”. Nothing came of the hope of finding investors for his young company, but Holzmayer takes it easy. Because demand is high, which Holzmayer sees as an unmistakable sign that there is a great need for this intelligent extension of living space.
Idea in the first lockdown
In any case, he follows his own path. As always, everything is at the last minute, which was due less to the consequences of the corona pandemic and more to the war in Ukraine. Because that’s where the wood for his balcony alternative should come from. However, Holzmayer is confident that everything that is ordered will be able to be delivered. Especially since a difficult, unforeseeable development brought the passionate craftsman, who had worked as a receptionist in a fitness studio, to his business idea.
Because the idea that finally led to the invention of the “Balcosy” came to Florian Holzmayer in the first Corona lockdown. In the phase in which he, like countless others, was suddenly forced to stay at home – and he didn’t have a balcony there.
“Balcosy” is considered furniture
All static and legal questions are solved. The Bautechnisches Institut Linz worked through all the relevant elements from the building law in order to arrive at a safe solution that conformed to the building law, says the young entrepreneur. And important: Since the “Balcosy” is classified as furniture, it can be installed in both rented and owner-occupied apartments.
Because it is important to him and his colleagues to promote the local economy and to rely on ecologically high-quality materials, every “Balcosy” is made of wood by the Pecherstorfer joinery in Pupping and assembled in Salzburg, Linz and Vienna in the first step.
