The Bulls won 5:3 (1:1,2:1,2:1) at Fehervar on Thursday and took a 2:0 lead in the “best of seven” final series. Game three takes place on Saturday (5:30 p.m./live Puls24) in Salzburg. Salzburg made up for a deficit twice before Brian Lebler became the match winner with a brace.
The goalscorer scored to make it 3:2 (28th) and scored the winning goal (55th) with the help of the otherwise strong Fehervar goalkeeper Rasmus Tirronen. Peter Schneider finally closed the sack with his second goal (58th/empty net). This means that Matt McIlvane’s team is still undefeated in this year’s play-off after the tenth game.
Salzburg dominated the initial phase, but had no chance to score. On the other hand, Hungary took the lead with their first shot on goal. Captain Janos Hari (12th) scored after a quick return and ideal pass from Anze Kuralt. But TJ Brennen (19th) ensured a tie before the first break.
Hari was also the first to strike in the middle period (23′), but shortly afterwards Salzburg turned the game around with two goals. First, Schneider scored with a full slap shot (25./PP) to equalize again. Three minutes later, Lebler was suddenly completely alone in front of the goal and gave the visitors the lead for the first time (28′).
Salzburg then dominated the game, but could not use seven minutes with one man more on the ice to make a preliminary decision. Outnumbered, Ali Wukovits was unable to convert a counterattack (53′) and Salzburg promptly conceded the equalizer from Alex Petan (54’/PP). But just 59 seconds later, a seemingly harmless Lebler shot slipped through and into the goal.
