Wild scenes took place on December 4th in accommodation for guest workers in Utzenaich, district of Ried. As reported, a dispute among the Romanian residents escalated, leading to violent physical altercations. A small part of the ear was bitten off from one man, and another was hit so severely on the head with a cooking pot that he suffered a fractured skull.
A total of four men were accused by the Ried public prosecutor’s office, two – a 29-year-old and a 41-year-old – appeared at the trial date in the Ried Regional Court, the whereabouts of the other two accused could not be found.
The duo made a remorseful confession before Judge Claudia Grillneder. The reason for the dispute may have been (small) financial debts to each other, the accused had around 2.5 per thousand alcohol in their blood on the evening of the crime. The first accused, who seriously injured a roommate with the cooking pot, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment for aggravated assault. The second accused got away with eight months in prison. Reasons for mitigation were the integrity, the admitted responsibility and the contributory negligence of the injured. The judgments are already final.
