Around 2.50 a.m. the serious accident happened in Mauerkirchen (Braunau district). The car had left the B142 and crashed into the Holy Spirit Church. The car then spun on its own axis and came to a standstill on the road. When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, a 21-year-old and the registration owner (23) were standing next to the wreck. None of them want to have been behind the wheel. They said they didn’t know who the driver was. The stranger fled. Alcohol tests on the occupants showed 1 and 1.84 per thousand. The rescue took the younger man to the hospital, and the 23-year-old was also injured in the accident. However, he refused first aid from the Red Cross paramedics.
Volunteers from the Mauerkirchen fire brigade were also on duty to secure and clean the scene of the accident. The impact also caused damage to the church, the height has yet to be determined. “Further surveys are being conducted,” said the state police department on Friday.
