The Westbahn starts today with up to four direct connections between Vienna Westbahnhof and Munich Hauptbahnhof. From Vienna (Hütteldorf) to Munich (east), the travel time should be 3 hours 47 minutes and thus be six minutes faster than the competition.
From June 12, the journey time will be reduced by another four minutes. In Austria, the trains stop at all stations that have previously been served by Westbahn (Amstetten, Linz, Wels, Attnang-Puchheim and Vöcklabruck).
If you board the Westbahn at Linz Central Station at around 9:27 a.m., you will be in the Bavarian capital just in time for lunch. With a journey time of 2:46 hours from main station to main station, it is a few minutes faster than by car. From Wels main station you can reach the Munich East stop in a record time of two hours and 20 minutes – without having to change trains. Vöcklabrucker are in Bavaria in a good two hours.
Connection to the airport
The stop at the Munich East train station makes it possible, in particular, for travelers from central Upper Austria and from Salzburg to reach Munich Airport quickly and with just one change to the S-Bahn, said Managing Director Thomas Posch today.
With the inclusion of the new destination Munich in the timetable, the Westbahn has also increased the offer between Vienna and Salzburg to up to 52 connections per day. Four daily connections are planned to Munich and back: The trains leave Vienna Westbahnhof at 08:06, 10:06, 16:06 and 18:06. In the opposite direction it goes at 05:48, 07:48, 13:48 and 15:48.
14.90 surcharge for climate ticket holders
An extract from the prices for Vienna-Munich: The standard price is EUR 79.90, EUR 54.90 with the ÖBB Vorteilscard, EUR 39.99 for people aged 60 and over (Mon-Thurs) and for online early bookers (limited) 23 .99 euros.
“Owners of the KlimaTicket Ö in particular, for whom the supplementary ticket to Munich – the so-called “KlimaPlus-Ticket München” – costs only 14.90 euros, benefit from cross-border traffic. Because they can travel in Comfort Class 2plus at no extra charge and are always one class better on the road. You can also reserve a seat free of charge,” says Posch.
