14,085 new infections and 27 deaths across Austria

Exactly one week ago, when the limit on corona tests came into force, 23,357 new cases were reported, with almost 605,000 tests. From Thursday to Friday only 193,630 official rapid PCR and antigen tests were carried out.

27 more deaths related to Covid-19 have been added since Thursday. On a seven-day average, 37.6 people died every day, and a total of 263 deaths were registered in the past seven days. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, there have been 16,168 deaths in Austria, and 180 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died from or with Covid-19. On Friday last week, 40 deaths related to Corona were counted.

2,553 new infections in Upper Austria

According to the federal states, the new infections have been divided up as follows since Thursday: 505 corona cases were newly discovered in Burgenland, in Carinthia there were 906, in Lower Austria 3,970, in Upper Austria 2,553, in Salzburg 669, in Styria 1,470, in Tyrol 715, in Vorarlberg 675 and in Vienna 2,622.

As of Friday, there were 219,017 registered active cases, down 13,799 from the day before, according to the health and home ministries. Last Friday (April 1) it was more than 340,500. The current seven-day incidence is 1,223.2 cases per 100,000 population. There have been 3,964,246 confirmed cases across Austria since the beginning of the pandemic. Since then, 3,729,061 people have recovered, and 27,857 were considered healthy again within the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 2,598 people with or because of a corona infection in the hospital, 151 fewer than the day before. 203 people were cared for in intensive care units, two more than on Thursday. Within a week, the number of intensive care patients fell by 17 people. The total number of people infected with corona in the hospitals fell slowly but noticeably within a week: Last Friday, 3,069 SARS-CoV-2-positive people were still being cared for there.

Of the 193,630 rapid PCR and antigen tests since Thursday, 179,572 were PCR tests. All in all, there are now 231,228,288 corona tests carried out. The positive rate for PCR was 7.8 percent. That 24-hour reading was above last week’s average of 5.1 percent positive results.

Vaccination rate at 68.9 percent

Only 3,776 vaccinations were carried out on Thursday, a total of 6,817,684 people have now received at least one, according to the data from the e-vaccination card. 6,186,094 people in Austria – 68.9 percent – have valid vaccinations.

Although only 207 of the vaccinations carried out were first bites, this number is still above the seven-day average of 159. A total of 1,112 first vaccinations were carried out within the past seven days. There were also 481 second and 3,088 third tricks.
