Young people with learning difficulties get a fair chance at Starlim- Sterner

In the new Starlim- Sterner training center, the floor reflects: “Our apprentices clean everything themselves,” says Training Manager Reinhard Koch. High-ranking visitors were announced for Friday. Starlim- Sterner has six training and further education courses on offer: from apprenticeship with Matura to the dual academy for AHS graduates to the TQM model, a partial qualification for metalworking professions. 23 companies are involved in this form of training. It is aimed at young people who are having trouble finding an apprenticeship. You learn the basics of working with metal and are allowed to get to know and operate machines.

Graduated after two years

After two years, a certificate beckons: “Our people’s graduation rate is 83 percent,” reports training manager Koch. The lesson can be made up for later. The training time will be counted. “Apprenticeship used to be a dead end,” says the Starlim-Sterner boss. For this reason, the company, headquartered in Marchtrenk, introduced the apprenticeship with Matura eleven years ago. From this point on, the number of apprentices skyrocketed. Since then, Starlim- Sterner has accompanied over 300 trainees through to their matriculation examination. In the new training center on Karl-Schönherr-Strasse, boys and girls can learn ten technical trades. Despite many incentives, the women’s quota (13 to 18 percent.) (fam)
